The Northern Stars defeated the Prairie Blaze 2 games to 1 in an MWJHL Quarterfinal series.
In game 1, Whitney Scott scored early in the game and Kristen Hunt did the rest, kicking out 34 shots in a 1-0 victory for the Prairie Blaze over the Northern Stars. Both teams finished the game 0 for 3 on the power-play, Roxane Desrochers stopped 16 of 17 shots in a hard luck loss, while Kristen Hunt allowed no goals on 34 shots to help her team hang on for a 1-0 win.
In game 2, the Northern Stars would rebound nicely jumping out to an early 2-0 lead on goals from Kristen Early and Josee Desrosiers, before any panic could set in, the Blaze would get a power-play goal from Naomie Berube and an even strength goal from Hannah Pales to draw even before the 8:30 mark of the period. The Stars would take the lead before going to the dressing room on a marker from Breanna Murner with 15 seconds left in tthe period.
Josee Desrosiers would expand the lead to 4-2 in the second on a power-play goal at 8:33, Kristen Early and Mackenzie Taylor would draw the helpers.
Renee Stevenson would score the eventual game winning goal at 16:21 of the third, Kristen Early and Jori Friesen would get the assists to expand the lead to 5-2. The Blaze would push with two late goals to cut the lead to 5-4 but were unable to find the tying goal as they were denied down the stretch by Roxane Desrochers who stopped 14 of 18 in the victory while Kristen Hunt took the hard luck loss while stopping 23 of 28.
Game 3, was the most lopsided game of the series with the Stars winning 6-0 on the strength of goals with a pair of goals from both Jori Friesen and Laura Kilbrei while single markers came from Breanna Murner and Kristen Early. The Stars finished the night 2 for 6 on the power-play while the Blaze came up empty on their six attempts with the man advantage.
Roxane Desrochers earned her first career MWJHL playoff shutout turning aside all 26 shots she saw, while Kristen Hunt took the loss stopping 30 of 36 in defeat for the Blaze.
