Two teams still with an real chance of finishing in third place, clash this evening at Bell MTS IcePlex- The Prairie Blaze begin the day two points up on the Manitoba Blizzard for 4th place, however the Blizzard have one game in hand which will be played tomorrow.
This could, also in more ways than one be a preview of a first round playoff series as well so it will serve for one of these teams to send a message while ultimately trying to improve their playoff positioning.
The Prairie Blaze are coming off a 3-1 loss over the Silvertips last Sunday, they can still finish 3rd but need the full two points and some help in a tiebreaker formula. It is more likely that the Blaze settle for the 4th or even 5th seed come the playoffs.
The Manitoba Blizzard are coming off a huge 4-2 victory over the Northern Stars, also last Sunday to keep their chances of a higher playoff seed alive. The math is simple, they control pretty much where they finish two wins (tonight against the Blaze and tomorrow against the Gray Owls, would also put them in a tiebreaker for the third seed. (pending math).
Another Wildcard to bear in mind is how many points (if any) the Northern Stars pick up in the late game against the Western Predators who have nothing to play for (standings wise) tonight. The Stars can max out on points at 24 which could (pending the result of the early game and tomorrows game) place them anywhere from 4th-6th in the standings.
