The Western Predators scored early and often to defeat the Silvertips 5-3 on Thursday night at Bell MTS Ice Plex.
The Western Predators overcame an early goal in the opening minute by Hope Anderson by scoring three straight to close the first period up 3-1.
They got a power-play goal from Sam Payette with the assists going to Natasha Esquivel and Taylor Webb at 3:02 to tie the game at 1-1. The Predators went ahead at 6:23 when Bailey Grantham scored with the assists going to Alana Mendez and Danielle Rondeau. At 16:44 Sydney Allen capped off the scoring in the first with an un-assisted marker. The shots on goal in the first favoured the Predators 12-10.
In the second half of the second period the Silvertips would begin to rally at 10:30 with Emily Carey notching a goal with the assists going to Ashley Ross and Rebecca Thevenot. The Silvertips tied the game at 11:47 off the stick of a power-play marker from Autumn DeGraeve, Bryn Schmidt and Lindsay Michels would pick apples on the goal and suddenly the game was tied 3-3. The Silvertip rally appeared to not fluster the Predators as they would regain the lead before the period was up on a marker from Kelsey Conrad, Danielle Rondeau and Julia Ortiz drew the helpers at 13:19 to give the Predators a 4-3 lead. The shots favoured the Silvertips by a 13-6 mark in the 2nd.
Michelle Kerdes came in at the start of the third period to replace Channelle Vandal in goal for the Predators and would make 14 saves in the period to keep her team in the lead. They got an insurance marker from Alana Mendez at 4:46 of the period to close the scoring.
Channelle Vandal picked up the win in goal despite not playing in the third period she stopped 19 of 23 in forty minutes of play while Sara Cusack took the loss going the distance for the Silvertips while stopping 25 of 30 shots she faced.
With the win, the Predators even their record to 1-1-0 while the loss drops the Tips one game below 500 with a record of 1-2-0.
