The Southwest Cougars made a furious rally in the third scoring three goals in 4:01 in the second half of the third period but it wasnt enough as the Winnipeg Thrashers got an empty netter late to preserve a 6-4 victory.
The Cougars got a pair of goals from Jared McCorrester and a single by Callum Fortin to make things interesting but Riley Barroso iced the game with an empty netter to stop the rally.
The Thrashers raced out to a 4-0 lead on goals by Kale Price, Josiah Vanderhooft, Chad Smithson and Austin Thorarinson in the first half of the hockey game to put the home side up comfortably, Leighton Holstein and Reid Robertson traded goals for the respective teams to give the Thrashers a 5-1 setting the stage for the third.
The Thrashers outshot the Cougars 36-30 and went 1 for 6 on the power-play while Southwest went 2 for 4.
Noah Gilbert picked up the win making 26 saves for the Thrashers while Randy Cooke stopped 30 in the loss.
