Stefanie Leslie scored the winning goal at 2:58 of overtime as the Manitoba Blizzard defeated the Northern Stars 2-1 on Sunday night.
Leslie received a pass from Kyra Hoffman and converted on a break-a-way to cap off a crazy overtime period with lots of scoring chances both ways.
Both goals of regulation were scored in the 2nd period, Alyssa Olson opened the scoring with her first ever MWJHL goal at 9:32. Josee Desrosiers converted on a nifty power-play feed from Leah Hibbert and Ashleigh Watson at 13:01 to tie the game. A scoreless third period set the stage for overtime.
Sydney Urwin picked up the win for the Blizzard stopping 31 shots including a few key saves in overtime. Zoe Coates played just as well in her first ever MWJHL game but was charged with a hard luck loss stopping 24.
With the win the Blizzard improve to 2-0-0 while the Stars fall to 1-0-1
