The University of Alberta Pandas extended their winning streak to three games by posting a 4-0 victory over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen in a rainy, windy contest Sunday afternoon at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in Winnipeg.
Fourth year forward Sydney Daines scored twice for the Pandas. Morgan Corbett and Aly Parth added singles.
Alberta with the win improves to 4-1-1, Winnipeg with the loss falls to 1-4-1.
Both teams had to endure cold, rainy, windy conditions throughout the game with game time temperatures hovering around the 10 degree mark.
Daines opened up the scoring in the 13th minute picking up a loose ball in the slot of a shot from Morgan Corbett and beat Wesmen starting goalkeeper Madison Fordyce to give the Pandas a 1-0 lead.
A few minutes later Fordyce was forced to leave the contest due to injury and was replaced by second year goalkeeper Shayna Ilnisky, participating in her first regular season action of the season.
The Pandas made it 2-0 in the 39th minute with Daines taking a pass from Karissa McNutt and beating Ilnisky low to the right side.
Alberta went into the halftime break leading 2-0.
The Pandas extended their lead to 3-0 in the 61st minute when third year midfielder Morgan Corbett put a perfect shot by Ilnisky.
Aly Parth closed out the scoring on a free kick in the 73rd minute to make the final score 4-0.
“Alberta deserved the win today. We will continue to work hard and be ready for next weekend”, added Wesmen head coach Amy Anderson.

UP NEXT – Alberta will be home next weekend against Regina and Saskatchewan. Winnipeg will be on the road next Saturday against Lethbridge and Sunday in Calgary.
