A massive second inning was the undoing as the Winnipeg Goldeyes (34-25) lost the series opener 12-3 against the Kansas City T-Bones (33-25).
The home side connected for 10 runs in the 2nd inning anchored by two 3 run home runs in the inning.
Goldeyes starter Mikey O Brien was tagged for 10 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits in 3 innings of work., one spot of good news was that 5 Goldeye relievers combined to only allow 2 earned runs in the remaining 6 innings.
Offensively, 3 players had multiple hit nights in the losing cause.
Gabe Perez picked up the win for the T-Bones giving up 1 earned run on five hits in six innings.
The two teams will be back at it in Game 2 of the three game series tomorrow night at 7:05 pm- Edwin Carl (6-1 3.89 ERA) will take the ball for the Fish opposite Chris Perry (2-2 5.19 ERA for the home side.
Elsewhere in North Division action Friday night, the St. Paul Saints hammered the Salina Stockade 10-2, Fargo defeated Cleburne 6-2 and Sioux falls upended Texas 9-6.
